WHILE the ANC Frances Baard region has resolved to retain the current provincial leadership, the provincial executive committee (PEC) has maintained that it will not pre-empt the outcome.
ANC secretary general Fikile Mbalula is expected to deliver the keynote address at the provincial conference at the Mittah Seperepere Convention centre from April 22-24.
ANC provincial secretary Deshi Nxganga said that while ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa was also invited to attend, the scheduled visit of the Ukrainian president to South Africa could clash with these dates.
“The 10th provincial conference of the ANC in this Province will be tasked with taking stock of the health of the organisation and resolving on the new mandate of the new leadership that will be elected to take the movement forward for the next four years. Part of the business of the conference will be to elect capable cadres of the ANC to lead this movement going forward.
“During the conference, we will look at electoral mandates including water, sanitation and electricity as well as the role of municipalities in finding solutions to service delivery issues.”
He stated they would not dictate who branches should vote for.
“The ANC in the Northern Cape comprises 232 branches, 189 of which have qualified to attend the provincial conference, which represents 81,5 percent of the total branches of the ANC in the Province.
“Each branch will be represented by a minimum of two delegates.
He said 97,4 percent of branches in the John Taolo Gaetsewe region; 72,5 percent of branches in the Namakwa region; 87,7 percent of branches in the Frances Baard region; 73,9 percent of branches in the ZF Mgcawu region and 65,6 percent of branches in the Pixley ka Seme region would be participating in the provincial conference.
“The provincial conference will be the conference of branches, as 90 percent of those who are attending and are voting delegates will be from the branches and the other 10 percent will be from our leagues.”
Ngxanga added that delegates would also engage in commissions, including matters of economic transformation, international relations, social transformation, organisational renewal and the 2026 local government elections.
“These discussions assist us as a movement to shape our policies and to position us better to serve the diverse and urgent needs of our communities,” he said.
