A 21-year-old accused has been denied bail after allegedly stabbing a 19-year-old student from Kuyasa multiple times and abandoning her body in the veld.
National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) Northern Cape spokesperson Mojalefa Senokoatsane said the accused appeared in the Colesberg district court on June 9 following his arrest on a charge of murder.
"The accused Siphosovuyo Yabo, 21, was accused of the brutal murder of Bunono Alulutho Buba, 19, after her lifeless body was discovered in the veld between Bongweni and Khayelitsha in Kuyasa with multiple stab wounds to the neck and abdomen."
He indicated that the police responded to an incident that was reported to the Kuyasa police station during the early hours of June 5.
The officers responded to a report of people allegedly being attacked at a drinking establishment in Khayelitsha, Kuyasa. This led to the subsequent discovery of the deceased and the arrest of the accused."
Senokoatsane stated that the court denied bail on June 20, whereupon the accused will remain in custody pending further investigations.
"The matter has been postponed until August 13. The NPA commends state prosecutor Sisipho Zicina for her diligent efforts in successfully opposing bail and ensuring that the interests of justice and the safety of the community are upheld.
The NPA remains committed to intensifying its efforts in the prosecution of gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF) and reaffirms its stance that those who commit such heinous crimes will be brought to book and face the full might of the law," he added.
