AN EXHIBITION curated by Frellet Koope will be held at the McGregor Museum on June 12 to celebrate the life and times of veteran DFA journalist and photographer Vusi Tukakhomo (1945-2019).
The exhibition will be opened by the chief executive officer of the McGregor Museum, Sunet Swanepoel.
Tukakhomo's wife, Sylvia, and heritage researcher and historian Sephai Mngqolo will also address the event.
Kimberley-born, Tukakhomo had an illustrious 35-year career at the DFA, where he reported on news and sport. He had a passion for telling stories from the heart of the community as well as for soccer and boxing events.
Despite media restrictions, amid the military lockdown of township schools, he recorded the lives and struggles of people in Galeshewe during the shooting of ANC cadres and anti-apartheid marches during the 1980s.
He was awarded a De Beers Shining Light award in 2000 in recognition of his excellence in the community.
Following his retirement from journalism in 2006, Tukakhomo continued to work as a freelance writer and was working on authoring a book on business people based in Galeshewe.
