In a momentous occasion that signifies hope, resilience, and determination, Coachella Randy, a proud resident of Douglas, has been crowned the new LGBTQIA+ Face of the Northern Cape. This achievement is not only a testament to Coachella’s unwavering dedication but also a beacon of inspiration for many young individuals in the region.
Coachella's journey to the top was not an easy one. After participating in the Face of the Northern Cape pageant hosted by Kitovu Birthing African Warrior Organisation for three consecutive years, Coachella's perseverance finally paid off on May 3 this year when she was announced the winner.
Her triumph is a powerful message of self-acceptance and empowerment, resonating deeply with the youth who look up to her as a role model. As Coachella reflects on her journey, she emphasises, "It doesn't mean coming from a small town, your dreams must be small.
"Dream big, work hard, and never let your circumstances define your destiny."
Coachella's homecoming celebration on June 7 was a grand affair, with the local municipality, Mayor of Siyancuma, her family, Douglas VW crew, and the community coming together to applaud her achievement. This outpouring of support underscores the impact Coachella has had on her community and highlights the importance of unity and acceptance.
As Coachella embarks on this new chapter as an ambassador, she has outlined ambitious plans to make a meaningful difference in the lives of her peers. These initiatives include:
Hosting beauty pageants: Coachella aims to visit all five districts in the Northern Cape, organising beauty pageants that provide a platform for LGBTQI individuals to express themselves freely and confidently and also educate all communities about LGBTQI.
Establishing a shelter: Within the next three years, Coachella plans to reestablish a shelter for the LGBTI community, offering a haven for those who face rejection and violence. She wants to collaborate with the premier to achieve this for her peers.
Coachella's journey is a testament to the power of resilience and determination. As she continues to strive for greatness, her story serves as a reminder that everyone deserves to live their life authentically and without fear.
The newly crowned LGBTQIA+ Face of the Northern Cape is set to make a meaningful difference in the lives of LGBTQI individuals through initiatives such as hosting beauty pageants and establishing a shelter.
