THE DEPARTMENT of Transport, Safety and Liaison recently appointed 23 new provincial inspectors, who took up their posts at 10 traffic stations across the Northern Cape on September 1.

Department spokesperson Rennie Andrias said road safety remained a priority in light of the increasing number of vehicles on the province’s roads.

"it is essential that we strengthen our enforcement capacity to ensure compliance, reduce reckless driving and prevent road crashes. We urge all road users to co-operate with our law enforcement officers on our roads, adhere to the rules of the road, and play their part in creating safer roads for everyone. Road safety is a shared responsibility," said Andrias.

He welcomed the new provincial inspectors, adding that their appointment would have a positive impact and further enhance road safety in the Northern Cape.
