SOL PLAATJE Municipality and various political parties have extended their condolences following the death of ACDP councillor Roddy Loff.
Loff, often described as a “voice of reason”, was outspoken on issues of clean governance and was committed to bringing about positive change.
He was admitted to hospital after an illness and passed away on September 4 – the same day he was due to celebrate his birthday.
It was noted that he remained actively involved in council matters from his hospital bed.
During a special council meeting last week, Speaker Dipuo Peters said Loff had recently been placed on the council’s prayer list.
She noted that various political parties had expressed their sadness at his passing. Peters also extended her condolences to his bereaved family.
FF+ chief whip Johan Smit confirmed that Loff had been treated at Robert Mangaliso Sobukwe Hospital.
“He kept up his good spirits, humour and a positive outlook in spite of his health condition. His unexpected passing – and his dedication to council work – has left a huge void in the community. He was extremely passionate about his duties, the community and his religion,” said Smit.
He extended sympathies to Loff’s family, friends and colleagues, adding: “We will keep them in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”
