A COMMUNICATION received from the Sol Plaatje Municipality in Kimberley, informs residents of the City that the City will face "a reduced water supply" over the weekend, and that they should use water responsibly and sparingly.
The communication states:
Upgrades under the Budget Facility for Infrastructure (BFI) Project now make it possible to isolate sections of the water supply system on the 900mm and 600mm pipelines from Riverton to Newton Reservoirs. Maintenance and repairs can therefore be done without disrupting the water supply to Kimberley.
During these maintenance periods, residents will be supplied from the Newton Reservoirs. These reservoirs have consistently maintained water levels above 90% since the major water shutdown at the end of May 2025. This means there is enough water to supply the city.
The project team will be installing another 900mm valve upstream of Midstation over the weekend of August 22 to 24 2025.
During this time, a reduced water supply will be delivered from Riverton to the Newton Reservoirs via the 600mm pipeline.
Water supply to residents is not expected to be interrupted.
However, residents are advised that the water supply will be reduced over the weekend. We therefore request all residents to:
• Use water responsibly and sparingly.
• Ensure standby water supply systems and JoJo tanks are kept full as a precaution against any unforeseen problems.
We thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
Kind regards,
Elzabé van Niekerk
