THE POLICE in De Aar have apprehended a 30-year-old male suspect linked to a significant theft incident that unfolded over the weekend, resulting in the recovery of stolen items valued at more than R1.2 million. This operation highlights the effective collaboration between law enforcement and local businesses to enhance community safety.
The incident began with a complaint from the owner of a guest house regarding multiple items stolen from a guest's vehicle while it was parked on the premises. The theft, reported between Friday, August 1, 2025, and Saturday, August 2, prompted immediate action from local police, who began preliminary investigations and quickly identified a suspect in the case.
Police traced the suspect to an abandoned house located on Kort Street in De Aar. During the execution of a search warrant, officers uncovered a trove of stolen merchandise, including miscellaneous parts and electrical testers.
The total value of the recovered items exceeded a staggering R1.2 million, underscoring the scale of the operation. Following his arrest, the suspect has been charged with theft out of a motor vehicle and is expected to appear in the De Aar Magistrate’s Court shortly.
Major-General Nomana Mtukushe, the district commissioner of Pixley ka Seme, commended the police team for their quick and effective response. “This successful recovery of stolen property illustrates the commitment of our officers and their responsiveness to community concerns,” she stated.
“Moreover, it reflects the growing co-operation from the business community, who are now heeding SAPS safety tips aimed at reducing incidents of theft, business burglaries, and housebreakings,” she added.
