A 27-year-old Olifantshoek man was sentenced to seven years in prison for assaulting his girlfriend with a heated panga and burning her thighs in a fit of jealousy.

A 27-year-old accused Jason Jacobs, has been sentenced to seven years imprisonment in the Olifantshoek regional court for brutally assaulting his girlfriend with a panga.
The incident occurred on December 31, 2024, at the victim's residence in Olifantshoek.
SAPS Northern Cape spokesperson Sergeant Timothy Sam stated that according to the court, Jacobs accused his girlfriend of infidelity after seeing her enter another man's vehicle.
"In a fit of rage, he used a heated panga to burn his girlfriend on her thighs. The victim managed to escape the attack, but Jacobs continued his violent behaviour by assaulting the victim's minor child."
He stated that in addition to the seven-year sentence for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, Jacobs was also sentenced to six months' imprisonment for assaulting the minor child.
"The court also ordered that Jacobs' name be entered into the National Child Protection Register and declared him unfit to possess a firearm," Sam added.
Brigadier Kenneth Baloyi, Acting District Commissioner of the John Taolo Gaetsewe District, praised Constable Pako Bele of the Kathu Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for his thorough investigation, which led to Jacobs' successful prosecution.
