ANC Frances Baard regional chairperson appointed as Frances Baard district mayor

ANC regional chairperson Wende Marekwa was elected as executive mayor of the Frances Baard District Municipality (FBDM) during a council sitting on Friday, July 11. 

Marekwa's appointment follows the former executive mayor Unondumiso Buda's full time appointment as ANC Frances Baard regional secretary. 

Spokesperson for the FBDM, Gerline Roman said Marekwa was elected unopposed. 

"Councilor Marekwa brings with him a wealth of experience in local government. He is well-suited to steer the municipality for the latter period of the term of council. He promises to focus on service delivery, strengthening stakeholder engagement, and providing support to the four local municipalities within the district.

"The Frances Baard District Municipality council has full confidence in the Executive Mayor’s leadership and remains committed to maintaining institutional stability and delivering on the mandate to improve the lives of the residents," said Roman.

She said the municipality extended its gratitude to the previous executive mayor Unondumiso Buda, for her invaluable service, leadership and dedication that she displayed during her tenure.

The ANC Frances Baard region in a statement welcomed the appointment and expressed confidence that Marekwa would strengthen municipal systems and ensure continuity and stability in rendering service delivery.

"The ANC is of the firm view that his skills and experience will guide the municipality to fulfil its constitutional mandate. The ANC extends its appreciation to Buda for skillfully steered the ship.

"She is now serving as the ANC Frances Baard regional secretary, which is a full time position."
