DESPITE parts of Roodepan being without electricity following an explosion at the local switchhouse, the launch of a new locally authored book went ahead on Friday night – lit by the steady hum of a generator and the shared spirit of community.

Inside a modestly lit venue, family, friends, and supporters gathered to celebrate the release of Called to Share: My Life’s Journey with Jesus, the debut book by Roodepan-born Shalldrey Samuels.

A well-known spiritual storyteller and faith leader in Kimberley, Samuels shared personal reflections on her life and the process that led her to write the book. She described it as a testimony of restoration, healing, and purpose, grounded in her Christian faith.

Although the book draws heavily from her religious beliefs, Samuels said she hopes her story will resonate with anyone seeking inspiration or strength through life’s challenges.

Guests at the launch joined in prayers and songs of praise during the evening, applauding the author’s achievement and contribution to the community. The atmosphere, though physically dimmed by power outages, was described by attendees as joyful and uplifting.

“This is something we really needed, a reminder of light in dark times,” said one guest.

Samuels explained that she began writing the book in 2024 after what she described as a spiritual prompting. She noted that each chapter title came to her early in the morning, and she wrote the manuscript with a sense of divine guidance.

Her work touches on early experiences, including a childhood memory of being told she would grow up to love God deeply, a moment she said left a lasting impression.

While the book is rooted in her own journey of faith, she hopes it will encourage others to reflect on their lives and consider sharing their stories as well.

Family and friends came to support Shalldrey Samuels during her book launch.
