THE  NORTHERN Cape Division of the High Court has granted a forfeiture order for two vehicles worth a combined R265,000 to the state.

The vehicles were seized in connection with two separate incidents.

In the first case, a silver Colt 2000 bakkie valued at R85,000 was forfeited after it was found with a dead steenbok on board, resulting from illegal hunting. The vehicle was seized by police and later handed over to the Hawks Asset Forfeiture Investigation and the National Prosecuting Authority's Asset Forfeiture Unit for further investigation.

In the second case, a Toyota bakkie worth R180,000 was confiscated by Hartswater Police after it was allegedly used to drive over and kill a victim in a murder incident. The vehicle was subsequently forfeited to the state after a court order was granted.

The Hawks Asset Forfeiture Investigation and the Asset Forfeiture Unit worked together to secure the forfeiture orders, which marks a significant victory in the fight against crime and the deprivation of illicitly obtained assets.
