POFADDER police officers swooped into action in the early hours of March 12, bringing a swift end to a daring burglary at a local health clinic in Blyvoor Uitsig.
Northern Cape police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Sergio Kock said that, acting on a tip-off about a break-in in progress, officers from the Pofadder SAPS D-Relief unit raced to the scene at around 5.30am, only to find the suspects already on the move. Their getaway vehicle, a sleek pearl white Omoda SUV, was spotted speeding towards Aggenys along the N14.
Determined not to let the culprits slip away, the police gave chase, closing the gap as the suspects hurtled down the highway. The high-stakes pursuit came to an abrupt halt about 10km outside Pofadder when officers successfully intercepted the vehicle.
A search of the SUV’s boot revealed two stolen computers - valued at approximately R50,000 - believed to have been taken during the clinic break-in. The suspected thieves, a 27-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman, were immediately taken into custody. Their vehicle, allegedly used in the commission of the crime, was also seized.
The couple now face charges of business burglary and possession of suspected stolen property and will soon appear before the Pofadder Magistrate’s Court.
SAPS management hailed the swift response of their officers and acknowledged the vital role of community members in providing key information that led to the arrests. Authorities have once again emphasised the importance of public vigilance and “partnership policing”, urging residents to remain the "eyes and ears" of the police in the fight against crime.
