ReSURGEnce Conference aims to bridge the wealth gap

Durban — The reSURGEnce conference, a global movement to spark growth of Black Businesses will return to New York City this November 22 - November 24.

The conference will bring together business leaders and economic and government institutions to energize attendees to join the movement to bolster the growth of Black Business and bridge the wealth gap among Black communities.

The three-day conference aims to educate aspiring entrepreneurs on strategies of how to access funds to kickstart and grow their businesses, while exploring themes that will energize business leaders on how to build bridges and conduct business with government agencies and corporations.

Attendees will have the exclusive opportunity to explore critical and timely themes aimed at pushing Black communities forward, from best practices to conducting business in the renewable energy and green economy sector to building wealth via real estate and homeownership, to ways in which the Black Church can empower communities worldwide.

This year’s reSURGEnce conference comes on the heels of the release of the 2024 Economic State of the Black World Report that analyses and illustrates the racial divide and economic disparities in key areas of business, wealth, health-care, banking and quality of life.

Published by The New York Christian Times and penned by Rev. Dennis Dillon, researcher, publisher of The New York Christian Times and the chief convener for the reSURGEnce Conference, the report underscores that Black Americans continue to lag far behind their white counterparts in almost all categories of economics.

This is especially true in states like New York, where Black people represent more than 19% of the state’s population, yet they only account for 9% of the state’s buying power, and own less businesses than their Asian and Latino counterparts.

“In our rapidly changing world that gets smaller by the minute amidst the rise of new technological advances and a vibrant wave of economic globalization, Blacks across America and Africans around the world have reasons to hope,” said Rev. Dennis Dillon, publisher of The New York Christian Times and the chief convener for the reSURGEnce Conference. “But data shows that while it may seem like Black people are included in this surge of economic growth, they are still behind the curve.”

“The reSURGEnce conference will arm attendees with the tools they need to participate in a rapidly changing economy. We hope that each attendee will take their learnings back to their businesses and their communities so Black people worldwide can reap the benefits of economic globalization just like their counterparts do.”

The reSURGEnce Conference will include breakout sessions led by Black pioneers in the business world, including JP Morgan and Goldman Sachs, along with key notes from local and international political figures - from New York to Africa. Some of the key business leaders attending and speaking at the conference include, Durban South Africa’s City Manager Musa Mbhele and Edison Group CEO and Investment Property developer Vivian Reddy, to name just a few.
