Influences: Brothers of Peace, Miguel Miggs, DJ Christos. “I have Massive Respect for Christos and Oskido for taking me around and giving me slots on their gigs” he says.

CV: SA’s award-winning DJ, producer and keyboardist first cut his musical teeth as part of his school’s choir, then studied music theory at the Natal Technikon where he met the other members of his group, Shana.

Break out: The Red Bull Music Academy in 2003. His remix of trumpeter Bra Hugh Masekela’s classic protest jazz anthem, “Stimela” mainlined some much needed imagination and soul into an SA house scene dominated by festive floor fillers.

Trophy Cabinet: Black Coffee’s debut self-titled compilation mix CD won the “Best Dance Album” award at the 12th SAMAs back in 2005. His 2009 album  Home Brewed earned him Best Male Artist and Urban Dance Awards at the 16th SAMAs. In September 2010 he set a DJ world record, spinning tunes for 60 hours straight.

Ladies Man: 23-year old fiancé, actress and TV presenter Enhle Mbali Mlotshwa.

Ubuntu Factor: His Black Coffee Foundation raises funds for disabled people, providing them with wheel chairs, educational facilities, musical instruments and more. Black Coffee’s left hand was permanently damaged in an accident back when he was 14.
