Zama Maphisa
CAPE TOWN - A body believed to be that of missing Alexander woman Zama Maphisa has been found at a game farm near Dennilton in Mpumalanga.
Maphisa went missing in September after she left with her boyfriend on a romantic sojourn to the game farm and never returned.
Her boyfriend, Lefadi Chego, has been arrested. He arrived late in court on Monday and his murder case was postponed to Thursday. Police are awaiting DNA results.
Chego, the father of their 4-month-old baby, apparently surprised Maphisa with a getaway on September 28.
According to Maphisa’s post on social media, the pair seemed to be enjoying the holiday in what appeared to be a loving relationship.
Tracy Sithole said she started worrying about her best friend’s whereabouts after receiving a call from her employer, who said Maphisa had not been at work for more than three days.
“I started worrying when I was told Zama was not at work for three days and was booked off sick.”
Sithole said she rushed to Maphisa’s home on 5th Avenue in Alexandra, and found her 16-year- old son, 14-year-old daughter, and a 4-month-old baby all by themselves.
On October 20, Chego was arrested. Gauteng police spokesperson Captain Kay Makhubela confirmed that police had found the remains of a woman in Mpumalanga and said DNA results were being awaited to confirm whether the remains were Maphisa’s.
