Finance jobs are in demand in South Africa, the Pent Job Market Trends Report June 2024 reveals.
The Pnet Job Market Trends Report, which offers insights into recruitment and employment trends into the SA job market, says in its latest report that three of the five most in demand jobs are in the finance sector.
According to the report, here are the top five most in demand jobs in the country:
The report also offered insights into regional jobs trends for the provinces of Mpumalanga, Limpopo and KwaZulu-Natal.
For Mpumalanga, the job sectors that had a high demand included: business and management; admin, office and support; and sales.
According to the report, for Mpumalanga there was 36% growth in the architecture and engineering job sector. Other job sectors that showed growth included manufacturing and assembly (8%); business and management (5%); and IT (5%).
Job sectors in Limpopo that have a demand for professionals include: business and management; finance; admin, office and support; and building and construction.
The report revealed that 27% of jobs in Limpopo are for business and management roles however, year-on-year, there has been a 7% drop in business and management jobs.
In KZN, the following jobs sectors had a high demand: finance; business and management; Sales; and admin, office and support.
There has been major growth in hiring activity for jobs in building and constructing, as well as the architecture and engineering sectors.
According to the job report, hiring activity in the country remains volatile.
The report revealed that after April, every year there is usually a spike in hiring activity. However, May 2024 showed a slight drop in hiring activity.
This drop could be partly due to political instability and concerns in the lead up to and following the 2024 South African elections. Year-on-year, hiring activity has decreased by 10%, compared to May 2023.
The trend for the two-year comparison showed that recruitment activity has decreased by 5% compared to May 2022.
