Telkom is set to increase prices for its fixed broadband and voice services starting April 1, 2025, citing rising operational costs and economic pressures.
Telkom consumers are set to face another price hike as the company announced plans to adjust tariffs for its fixed broadband and voice products, affecting both consumer and small to medium business (SMB) customers.
The new prices are set to take effect from April 1, 2025.
In a statement, issued to the media on Monday, Telkom attributed the price increases to escalating operational costs and external economic pressures, adding that the increases were "essential to maintaining Telkom’s commitment to delivering quality service".
“South Africa continues to face economic challenges, including rising inflation, increasing energy costs, and a weakened exchange rate, all of which put pressure on businesses across various sectors.
"These macroeconomic factors drive up the cost of delivering services, particularly in industries reliant on infrastructure, technology, and operational investments. As a result, adjusting tariffs becomes necessary to sustain business operations while ensuring continued investment in service quality and innovation," Telkom said.
Legacy fixed voice tariffs will rise by an average of 12%, while current fixed voice products will see a 6% increase. SMB PABX products will also experience a 6% hike. Additionally, both consumer and SMB DSL services will face a 12% price increase, whereas fibre tariffs will go up by an average of 6%.
Telkom Consumer CEO Lunga Siyom conceded that price increases can be challenging for their customers but maintained that they were necessary to continue providing reliable, high-quality services.
“We acknowledge that price increases can be challenging for our customers. However, these adjustments are necessary to ensure we continue providing reliable, high-quality services in an evolving economic landscape. We have worked hard to keep increases to a minimum while maintaining our value-driven offerings," Siyom said.
