Ashley Cupido came off the bench to score a brace to guide Stellenbosch to a dramatic 3-2 win over TS Galaxy at the Mbombela Stadium on Tuesday.

Stellies moved into seventh place on the Betway Premiership standings after staging a late comeback to power past the Rockets who remained in fourth place.

Following a bright start to the game, the visitors struck the first blow via the in-form man Devin Titus in the 17th minute.

A typical Stellies break on the counterattack proved too much for hosts and resulted in Andre De Jong setting up Titus in the box who slotted his shot well for his second goal in as many matches.

With a 12-game unbeaten record to protect in the league, Galaxy were not prepared to lay down and take back-to-back defeats having lost in the Nedbank Cup last weekend.

The hosts fired back in the 31st minute through Victor Letsoalo who was on hand to tap into an empty goal following one of many intricate Galaxy onslaughts in the opening stanza.

A goal apiece was the perfect representation of the first half as both teams cancelled each other out in terms of performances.

However, Galaxy were quick out of the blocks in the second half as they completed their turnaround as striker Dzenan Zajmovic nodded them in front three minutes into the second half.

The Bosnian number nine popped up at the far post for his ninth goal of the campaign, converting a Kamogelo Sebelebele cross.

It took until the 83rd minute for Stellies to find a way back into the match as second-half substitute Cupido popped up with a header to level matters before completing his brace in stoppage time to seal the win.

In the other encounter of the day, relegation strugglers Magesi FC took a huge step towards survival as they beat Polokwane City 1-0 at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.

On-loan Mamelodi Sundowns striker Thabang Sibanyoni scored the only goal of the match as Dikwena Tsa Meetse won back-to-back games for the first time this season and moved within a point of 14th-placed Marumo Gallants.

The towering striker showed his aerial prowess as he rose above bodies to meet a well-delivered free-kick into the box and made it 1-0 after 20 minutes and held on for the win.
