THE NORTHERN Cape Heat Women’s team fell agonisingly short of qualifying for promotion to the domestic six-team Division 1 competition for the upcoming 2023/24 season when they lost their One-Day Cup promotion play-off against the Free State Women in Bloemfontein on Saturday, April 22.
The NC Heat Women had been preparing and training for months for the Women’s Provincial One-Day Cup play-off, knowing that the winner of the 50-over contest would join the top six domestic teams in Division 1.
From the start of the game, the Heat Women played with precision and skill, taking advantage of every opportunity that came their way, but unfortunately, they could not pull off the much-needed win against the Free State women.

The Women’s Provincial and Girls Under-19 head coach Mark Arthur expressed his satisfaction with the Heat Women’s performance throughout the Provincial Competition, praising their individual contributions and their overall teamwork. Arthur said that he was looking forward to an exciting new cricket season where they would reflect on their successes and refocus for the challenges ahead.
The Northern Cape Heat Women have much to be proud of, and Arthur thanked the management staff for their contribution and support.
The solid patches and long hours of training had all been worth it, he said, as the Heat Women emerged victorious, ready to take on the challenges of the new season ahead.
