Local rhythmic gymnast off to African Champs in Cairo

SIXTEEN year-old Tricha Richards of Kimberley’s Rhythmia Gymnastics Club will on Tuesday head out to the 16th Rhythmic Gymnastic African Championship which is set to take place in Egypt.

The junior Olympian, a pupil at Kimberley’s Christian Brothers College (CBC), will be accompanied by her coach Tazmiah Francis. The duo jet out of South Africa on Tuesday well ahead of the tournament opening ceremony which will be on Sunday, June 18 in Cairo.

The teenager’s mother Desiree Richards said her daughter’s 17th birthday will be on Saturday, June 17 and the family will miss out on celebrating her birthday with her.

“We want to wish her a happy birthday, and also everything of the best for both of them,” the proud mother said.
