THE NORTHERN Cape’s Hungry Lions, plying their trade in the National First Division, are looking to boost their campaign by bolstering their squad.

Hungry Lions find themselves in eighth place on the 16-team Motsepe Foundation Championship table and will be keenly aware that they need to climb up the rankings.

The team from Postmasburg, currently calling the Suzuki Stadium in Kimberley home, are therefore looking to bring skill and experience on board by securing the services of 37-year-old former Mamelodi Sundowns man, Surprise Ralani.

However, they find themselves in a tussle with Upington City who are also looking to snag the playmaker who last played for Cape Town Spurs, but is now a free agent after being let go by the club last season.

Recently it was reported in KickOff Magazine that Hungry Lions’ chairman Henry Basie was cognisant of the fact that his team had only won two games from the six they have played thus far, hence their interest in the Kimberley-born “dribbling wizard”, saying that they are interested in what he could do for Hungry Lions.

Basie said that, despite their position on the table, their season was far from over, adding that the team’s first priority was not to fall too far behind so that they’d need to play catch-up towards the business end of the season.

To achieve this they needed the players, but Basie says that one of the major challenges they are facing in securing Ralani is capital, as finances are always a problem in the lower leagues.

However, because Ralani has carved out an impressive career on the field and is known for his agility, vision, and knack for crucial plays, he’s become a respected name in South African soccer, and the bidding teams will not let go of their prize easily.

His potential move has fans and analysts speculating on the impact he could bring to either team.

In the interim, Hungry Lions are gearing up to face 14th-placed Pretoria Callies at the Suzuki Stadium on Saturday, in a match kicking off at 3.30pm.
