Following the success of last year’s groundbreaking Diamantveld Cricket Festival, the tournament is set for a bigger, bolder return.

The cricket festival, a top-tier high school T20 cricket tournament that was the first-ever school cricket tournament to grace an international cricket field in South Africa was a resounding success and there is no doubt that it left cricket enthusiasts eager for more.

And ‘more’ is on its way.

This year, in a spirit of camaraderie and with a desire for competition, the Diamantveld Cricket Festival is set to return, and it promises an electrifying showcase of rising talent.

Once again collaborating with the Northern Cape Cricket Union, the festival aims to build on the success of its inaugural year, where it captured the hearts of the players and cricket enthusiasts across South Africa.

Modest beginnings

From its modest beginnings with nine participating schools, the festival this year has grown exponentially, attracting attention from all corners of the cricketing community, all eager to be part of the tournament. This year, a staggering 16 schools from diverse regions of the country will converge in Kimberley for the competition that will be staged between October 3 to 6.

Last year Potchefstroom Volkskool walked away with the honours and will be keen to defend their title, while hosts Diamantveld, Grey College, Paarl Boys’ High, Hoërskool Kalahari will be returning this year eager to knock them off their perch.

In addition to the returning schools 11 teams will make their debut at this year’s tournament with Garsfontein, Monument, HTS Drostdy, Outeniqua, Paul Roos, Hoërskool Nelspruit, Hans Moore, CBC HUB, Parel Vallei, Potchefstroom Gimnasium and Stellenberg all vying for the crown.

But as last year’s event testified, the festival is more than just a showcase of sporting excellence; it's a celebration of unity and community spirit.

Already Kimberley, the host city, is abuzz with anticipation, ready to embrace the visitors, revel in the festivities and create lasting memories.

“We are thrilled to host these exceptional schools and make this festival a resounding success,” says Diamantveld High School Marketing Manager Janco Steenkamp, one of the key organisers of the event. “The Diamantveld Cricket Festival is not just about cricket; it’s about bringing people together, fostering friendships, and inspiring the next generation of athletes.”
