Transnet initiates disciplinary action against TNPA chief

TRANSNET, the state ports and freight logistics entity, has initiated disciplinary action against Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) chief executive Pepi Silinga, along with several managers, following extensive investigations within the company.

The move comes after allegations of impropriety surfaced at TNPA, prompting Transnet to appoint Bowmans Attorneys to conduct a thorough inquiry.

Transnet also sought assistance from Bowmans in implementing the recommendations from a forensic report by Fundudzi Investigators that centred around the awarding of a tender for the multi-purpose terminal at the Port of Ngqura.

In response to legal guidance and the investigative findings, Transnet’s board of directors and TNPA board convened on June 21. It was during this meeting that they resolved to instituted disciplinary charges against Silinga.

Simultaneously, managers implicated in the Fundudzi report and other TNPA managers involved in acts of impropriety are also facing disciplinary action.

To oversee these proceedings impartially, external independent chairpersons have been appointed.

Transnet emphasised its commitment to handling the matter swiftly and with due diligence, promising updates as developments unfold.
