The second largest Lotto jackpot in South African history, estimated at a whopping R90 million, is up for grabs on Wednesday.
THE ANTICIPATION has been palpable since the National Lottery Ithuba announced that the Lotto jackpot for Wednesday, July 31, is estimated at an astounding R90 million.
This staggering sum marks the second-largest Lotto jackpot in the history of the South African Lottery, trailing only the R110 million jackpot won by four lucky players back in 2018.
The R90 million jackpot has been on a remarkable journey, rolling over an impressive 24 times. Each rollover has intensified the excitement, captivating participants across the country. As hopeful ticket holders eagerly await Wednesday’s draw, the question on everyone’s mind is: Could this be the life-changing moment they’ve been waiting for?
In an era of digital transformation, Ithuba has made it easier than ever for South Africans to participate. Ticket sales are now open through multiple digital channels.
Commenting on the digitisation of the National Lottery, Ithuba CEO Charmaine Mabuza stated: “We are proud to be leading the digitisation of the National Lottery in South Africa and beyond. Thanks to the convenience of digital platforms, participants enjoy the convenience of buying National Lottery tickets not only at their favourite participating retail stores but also digitally on the National Lottery website; the mobile app launched by Ithuba in 2018; the digital banking platforms of eight leading banks in the country, namely Absa, Standard Bank, FNB, Capitec, Nedbank, African Bank, Tyme Bank and Old Mutual; and via MTN Momo and VodaPay.
“All these efforts have enhanced the accessibility of the National Lottery to South Africans from all walks of life so that no person of legal age is denied the opportunity to play for life-changing jackpots such as this Wednesday’s estimated R90 million jackpot.”
The year 2018 witnessed an extraordinary moment in the history of the South African Lottery as four fortunate individuals collectively claimed the jaw-dropping R110 million Lotto jackpot.
Three of the winners opted for the traditional route, purchasing their tickets from retail stores, while the fourth winner, perhaps embracing the digital age, played using the FNB banking app.
Among the quartet, a 19-year-old newcomer to the Lotto scene struck gold. It was their very first time participating, defying the odds and securing a slice of the massive prize.
Each of the four winners received an impressive R27,500,000. A windfall that could alter destinies, fund dreams, and create lasting memories.
Ithuba reminded players that they need to be 18 years and older and that winners of R50,000 and more receive trauma counselling and financial advice from Ithuba at no cost.
“Our aim is to create winners that are equipped to make sound financial decisions, ensuring the sustainability of their newly found wealth. As the Operator, not only are we committed to responsible play, we are also committed to responsible winning through our winner services package,” said Mabuza.
Ticket sales for the estimated R90 million draw close at 8.30pm on the night of the draw.
