A constable linked to the Railway Protection and Security Services at Park Station is on the run after he allegedly killed a 35 year old man in Protea Glen Soweto on December 26, shortly after 5pm.
Independent Police Investigative Police Directorate (IPID) spokesperson Lizzy Suping said on the day of the incident, the officer never arrived for work, where he was supposed to report for night duty.
“According to eye witnesses the deceased was at home watching a soccer match with his brother, when he received a call to come outside.
“The deceased was allegedly shot by the caller who was in full police uniform.
“The officer allegedly fled the scene in a silver Toyota Etios. The deceased was declared dead at the crime scene and had a gunshot wound on his chest.”
She added that a bullet and cartridge were found at the crime scene.
“The deceased was taken to the Diepkloof mortuary.”
Suping added that IPID has taken over the investigation and had opened a murder case.
“The search for the accused officer is ongoing,” she stated.
