TRAFFIC between Pampierstad and Hartswater has been disrupted due to a service delivery protest, where local and long-distance taxi operators blocked the road on Monday.

Community members are frustrated over a R15 million project that was earmarked for the installation of stormwater drainage, as well as the upgrading of roads and the erection of speed bumps and traffic control markings, in Pampierstad.

SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Sergio Kock said Piet Strydom Road leading into Pampierstad was closed on September 16, since around 5am, due to service delivery protests.

“Taxis are currently barricading the road and motorists are requested to utilise alternative routes,” said Kock.

He indicated that no serious incidents were reported during the protests.

“The local police and the SAPS Public Order Policing unit is on the scene and monitoring the situation,” Kock added.
