Relentless Upington cops uncover R370k drug stash

THE UNWAVERING determination of members of the Upington Border Police led to the discovery of a significant stash of drugs at a previously searched premises.

The officers followed up on new information about possible hidden substances at a location they had visited earlier on Saturday, August 24, during an operation.

Provincial police spokesperson Sergeant Omphile Masegela said that on Sunday, August 25, the officers returned to the premises with the necessary authorisation and conducted a thorough search. During this search, they uncovered cocaine with an estimated street value of R223,720, methamphetamine (tik) worth approximately R132,000, and mandrax tablets valued at R20,600, all concealed within a hidden compartment in the residence.

The suspect, already in custody from the initial operation on Saturday, now faces additional charges. An inquiry has been registered for further investigation.

Sergeant Masegela emphasised that the police will continue to remain vigilant and committed to removing drugs from the streets, leaving no stone unturned in their efforts.

The operation underscores the relentless efforts of the Upington Border Police in their fight against drug trafficking.
