NORTHERN Cape Premier Dr Zamani Saul has welcomed the improved audit outcomes of provincial departments, as released by Auditor-General Tsakani Maluleke last week, and urged state entities to maintain clean audits.

The premier’s spokesperson, Naledi Gaosekwe, highlighted a “significant improvement” in the audit results, noting that the Province achieved eight clean audits.

“This is the highest number recorded so far, an improvement from the two clean audits in 2019, where there were nine unqualified with findings and four qualified audit opinions. However, there has been one instance of regression at the Department of Roads and Public Works,” said Gaosekwe.

She also pointed out that no unauthorised expenditure was recorded in the Province during the audit cycle.

“This is a clear indication of the provincial government’s commitment to enhancing accountability and transparency across all departments.”

Gaosekwe added that departments were expected to present their audit action plans to the executive committee on a quarterly basis.

“This is the accountability mechanism that will be implemented to ensure that a culture of accountability and consequence management is implemented,” she said.
