Northern Cape Premier Dr Zamani Saul has vowed to take action against Heads of Department (HODs) who persist in violating the law as part of enforcing consequence management.
NORTHERN Cape Premier Dr Zamani Saul has vowed to act against HODs who continue to transgress the law in an effort to enforce consequence management.
After convening its annual budget lekgotla last week, the provincial government has resolved to attract R20 billion in investments to offset rising debts and accelerate service delivery.
The head of communications at the Office of the Premier, Monwabisi Nkompela, stated that the premier would ensure that steps were taken against HODs who continued to incur irregular, wasteful and unauthorised expenditure.
He stated that Saul urged members of the executive council, heads of departments and chief financial officers to provide leadership to ensure that the precarious fiscal position of the Province was stabilised.
“The lekgotla noted that there will be no further budget cuts for the Province in the 2025 Medium-Term Expenditure Framework and that no monies allocated to the Province will be returned unspent.
“All grant funding received from National Treasury must be utilised for the purpose that it was intended, including equitable shares, conditional grants and the Municipal Infrastructure Grant funding.”
He added that the Office of the Premier would develop an Infrastructure Master Plan and develop an app to monitor the roll-out of infrastructure projects.
“The Province is currently on a drive to attract R20 billion investment in socio-economic infrastructure, reaffirming its commitment to infrastructure development as central to the vision of growing the Northern Cape.
“The budget lekgotla takes place during a time when the country and Province find themselves in a process of fiscal consolidation to deal with the escalating debt. This lekgotla provides a sound foundation to stabilise the provincial fiscal framework over the next two years. This will allow the Province to accelerate service delivery in a debt-free environment.”
Nkompela added that the MEC for Finance, Economic Development and Tourism, Venus Blennies-Magage, would deliver the provincial Medium-Term Budget Policy Statement later this month.
