THE NORTHERN Cape Premier, Dr Zamani Saul, paid a visit to the family of the late Joyce Mitha “Ous Micky” Dipico, the mother of former premier Manne Dipico, on the weekend following her death on August 18.

Her burial took place on Saturday.

Saul stated that as the stalwart and matriarch of the Dipico family, Ous Micky played a pivotal role in the struggle for emancipation.

“It comes as no coincidence that she passes on during the month when we celebrate women. She has left an indelible legacy for the empowerment of women,” said Saul.

“Beneath her kind nature, Ous Micky was a strong woman whose enduring qualities were demonstrated when the apartheid government forcefully removed the Dipico family from Greenpoint to Number 5 in Kimberley. Her legacy is evident in the values and strength that have been passed down to her children, the most prominent being the former premier, Manne Dipico.

“May the family find solace and strength during this sad and trying time. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.”

ANC provincial secretary Deshi Ngxanga extended his condolences to the family, her friends and the entire community of Galeshewe.

“It is with great sadness that the ANC learnt of the passing of the mother of the former premier and ANC provincial chairperson. May her dear soul rest in eternity,” said Ngxanga.
