PPE provider pleads guilty to tax fraud

A 40-year-old woman is awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty to 11 counts of tax violation in the Kimberley Specialised Commercial Crime Court after she and her company failed to pay VAT on a R207,750 PPE tender.

A 40-YEAR-old woman, Nicolette Sheenah Sebesho, is awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty to 11 counts of contravening the Tax Administration Act for failing to pay value-added tax to the South African Revenue Service (Sars).

According to Northern Cape Hawks spokesperson Captain Tebogo Thebe, Sebesho and her company, Namalo Trading Pty (Ltd), appeared before the Kimberley Specialised Commercial Crime Court on September 9, 2024.

“During March 2020, the accrued and her entity (juristic person) were awarded a tender to supply the Department of Agriculture, Environmental Affairs, Rural Development and Land Reform with hand sanitisers, face masks and other related products worth R207,750. The accused and her entity failed to pay the value-added tax to Sars as required by Section 25 of the Tax Administration Act 28 of 2011,” said Thebe.

“The Kimberley Serious Corruption Investigation unit successfully investigated the matter and brought the accused person before court on November 28, 2023, for their first appearance.

“The case has been postponed to September 19, 2024 for sentencing.”
