The “Vala Umgodi” team raided suspected drug houses and other premises in Postmasburg on Saturday, resulting in the confiscation of drugs with an estimated street value of R17,000. Additionally, the team seized suspected diamond-bearing gravel and a substantial amount of money believed to be the proceeds of criminal activities.
REACTING to information received about illicit mining and drug-related activities taking place in Postmasburg, the acting district commissioner of ZF Mgcawu, Brigadier Monica Sebili, mobilised the “Vala Umgodi” team.
Under the guidance of Lieutenant-Colonel Boitumelo Seleke, the operational commander of Operation Vala Umgodi in the Frances Baard District, a team was assembled and they sprang into action on Saturday.
The team conducted thorough searches of suspected drug houses and other premises, resulting in the confiscation of drugs with an estimated street value of R17,000. Additionally, they seized suspected diamond-bearing gravel and a substantial amount of money believed to be the proceeds of criminal activities.
In the course of the team’s duties, two South African men, aged 30 and 35, were arrested for drug dealing and two Nigerian men, aged 39 and 45, were arrested for drug possession.
Provincial police spokesperson Sergeant Molefi Shemane said the suspects are expected to appear in the Postmasburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday to face the charges against them.
The acting provincial commissioner of the SAPS in the Northern Cape, Major-General Luntu Ngubelanga, commended the team for their unwavering efforts in ridding the streets of drugs.
Ngubelanga also expressed gratitude for the support and assistance of community structures in providing the police with crucial information, leading to these successes and positive outcomes.
