WITH a focus on enhanced crime prevention, a multi-disciplinary, high-density police operation swept across all districts of the Northern Cape from Monday, July 8 to Sunday, July 14.

Provincial police spokesperson Sergeant Molefi Shemane said that this week-long blitz involved an array of strategic actions, including vehicle checkpoints (VCPs), stop and searches, roadblocks, tracing of wanted suspects, foot and vehicle patrols, compliance inspections, awareness campaigns and community outreach programmes.

Shemane revealed that the operation yielded a number of successes. The police arrested 83 suspects for contact and property-related crimes, while detectives nabbed 182 individuals wanted for various offences.

The operation featured 30 vehicle checkpoints and seven roadblocks across the Province, leading to 1,404 vehicles and 2,531 individuals being searched. Furthermore, 42 premises were also searched and compliance inspections targeted second-hand dealers, liquor premises and both formal and informal businesses, ensuring adherence to regulations.

During the operation, the police uncovered and confiscated dangerous weapons, thousands of litres of illicit alcoholic beverages, drugs and money believed to be proceeds of crime.

Shemane said that the Northern Cape police have pledged to continue these rigorous operations with a zero-tolerance approach to all crimes, ensuring safety and order across the Province.
