Nearly 100 Grade 12 learners from the surrounding areas of Springbok benefited from an open day that was recently held in Springbok.

Funded by the Kangnas Wind Farm, the event was a platform to provide learners with insights into the various opportunities available to them through the wind farm’s educational initiatives, including bursaries to address financial barriers.

The attendees had the chance to engage with key stakeholders, including representatives from the Xhaus Development, NCR TVET College, and StudyTrust, who were present to share resources and guidance.

The Kangnas Wind Farm runs a comprehensive Bursary Programme in partnership with StudyTrust, the bursary administrator. This programme is designed to alleviate the financial burden that often hinders students from pursuing higher education.

“Additionally, the wind farm extends its support to prospective female students through its Female STEM Programme, in collaboration with the Cape Peninsula University of Technology.

During the event, the NCR TVET College promoted its campus offerings and provided essential information about study opportunities, bursary options, and application processes.

StudyTrust shared detailed information regarding the Kangnas Bursary Scheme, including eligibility requirements, application procedures, and important deadlines.

Xhaus Development further supported the learners by conducting psychometric tests to help them identify the study fields best suited to their strengths and interests.

The Economic Development Manager for the Kangnas Wind Farm, Rouchet Daniels, highlighted that the importance of such initiatives cannot be overstated.

Daniels said many students face significant financial barriers that prevent them from pursuing their educational goals.

“Bursaries play a critical role in easing these burdens, allowing students to concentrate on their studies without the constant worry of funding. These bursaries not only increase access to education for students from low-income backgrounds or under-represented groups but also foster educational equity and opportunity,” explained Daniels.

Juandre Mentor from Xhaus Development said such events are very beneficial and in need in their communities.

“That is because they provide a platform for learners to get information on tertiary institutions, available bursaries as well as requirements and application processes. Furthermore, it helps learners to make informed career choices.” added Mentor.
