THE KIMBERLEY police have made significant strides in recovering stolen livestock after 126 goats, valued at an estimated R315,000, were reported stolen from a farm outside the city on Sunday, December 1.

The Kimberley Stock Theft and Endangered Species Unit is investigating the case after the complainant reportedly discovered that the padlock on the enclosure appeared to have been broken and the goats were missing.

Northern Cape provincial police spokesperson Colonel Cherelle Ehlers confirmed that the diligent efforts of officers led to the recovery of 19 goats, worth approximately R47,000, on the Griekwastad road outside Kimberley.

Their perseverance paid off further on Monday, December 2, when 95 goats, valued at R237,000, were recovered near Platfontein.

The lawful owner was contacted and confirmed ownership by identifying the goats’ distinctive tattoo markings.

While the investigation continues, no arrests have been made yet.

The police have urged anyone with information to come forward and assist with the case. Sergeant Lerato Phiri can be reached at 082 495 0736. Alternatively, tips can be provided through the MySAPS app or by calling Crime Stop at 08600 10111.
