THE DIAMOND City will buzz with activity and excitement when beauty queens from 40 countries compete for the crown in the Miss Teen Universe 2024 pageant, set to take place at the Mittah Seperepere Convention Centre.

This marks the first time the pageant is being held in a South African city since its inception.

A variety of activities have been planned leading up to the crowning ceremony on November 9, including a flea market, national costume competition, preliminary competition, and a much-talked-about aerobics session with social media sensation “King of Squats”, which will be open to the public.

The director of the Unamandla-Isagoentle Foundation, Onalenna Vilakazi, highlighted the event’s potential to boost the local economy.

“Kimberley entrepreneurs are also expected to benefit significantly from hosting the pageant in our Province. The Unamandla-Isagoentle Foundation, which is putting together the event in partnership with Miss Teen Universe, is excited about staging this event in our own backyard. Gone are the days when the Northern Cape played second fiddle to other provinces. We are grateful for the support of Northern Cape Premier Dr Zamani Saul and his cabinet, who have opened their doors in assisting us during the build-up to this show-stopper,” said Vilakazi.

She said the winner would walk away with an array of impressive prizes.

“The teenage beauty who will be crowned the 2024 queen will walk away with a brand-new electric car from China, $2,000, skincare products from Maple Skin Care, Carolina London cosmetics, TLK Oud Perfume for the year of her reign and a trip to Cape Town.

“The reigning queen, Lynette Arce-Garcia, will hand over the reins to a new queen who will be crowned on November 9, 2024. Contrary to what was previously communicated, the finale will no longer take place in Johannesburg, but everything will be finalised in Kimberley.”

Vilakazi added that tickets for the National Costume Competition, Preliminary Competition, and Grand Finale are on sale at Shoprite/Checkers and Computicket.
