Kimberley is gearing up for an unforgettable evening of gospel, hope, and action as Joyous Celebration headlines the FBDM HIV/Aids Benefit Concert on Saturday.

SOUTH Africa’s beloved gospel ensemble, Joyous Celebration will be headlining the entertainment line-up at this year’s World Aids Day celebrations in the Diamond City.

Known for their stirring performances and heartfelt melodies, Joyous Celebration has become synonymous with sold-out shows all around the country.

This year World Aids Day will be observed and celebrated with flair in Kimberley with the Frances Baard District Municipality (FBDM) said to be pulling out all the stops to ensure that the 2024 edition will be one to be remembered.

Inaugural HIV/Aids Benefit Concert

The municipality will be holding their inaugural HIV/Aids Benefit Concert themed “To Protect Everyone’s Health, Protect Everyone’s Right”. The concert is poised to light up the city on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at the Mittah Seperepere Convention Centre situated at the city’s world-famous Big Hole.

Joyous Celebration’s presence at the benefit concert is a huge drawcard and promises to uplift spirits and create a fitting atmosphere for all in attendance.

But organisers have gone further and planned what promises to be a spectacular evening of world-class entertainment. They have also made the assurance that this year’s World Aids Day observance will be remembered for its profound message.

Emerging gospel groups and artists

Certainly, for fans of gospel music, Joyous Celebration’s involvement is the stuff of dreams. But added to this drawcard, and adding a vibrant local flair, three emerging gospel groups and artists from the region will grace the stage, each ready to showcase their unique sounds and captivate the audience:

The choir Kganya ya Morena, well known for their dynamic harmonies and stirring spiritual renditions will be in attendance, as will Michelle Nxumalo (Michelle Ka Zwide) – a rising star with a soulful voice that promises to leave the audience spellbound.

Also, Theonique Danster an artist who has been celebrated for her heartfelt performances and undeniable charisma will be adding her signature sounds to the evening’s entertainment.

These performers embody the vibrant spirit of the Frances Baard community, and their inclusion underscores the municipality’s commitment to uplift local talent by giving them the platforms and opportunities to shine.

But that’s not all; for those who love to move, two of Kimberley’s favourite DJs – Booker-T and LadySta_DJ – will keep the energy alive between sets. Known for their ability to spin the hottest tracks, the duo will undoubtedly turn up the excitement, ensuring there’s never a dull moment.

A call to action

One thing should be emphasised though: While Saturday’s concert will be an entertainment extravaganza of the highest quality it’s also a call to action.

FBDM executive mayor Unondumiso Buda has emphasised the event’s dual role, which is to celebrate the power of arts and culture while driving home critical awareness around HIV/Aids.

The event will be aimed at uniting local communities in the fight against the epidemic so that renewed hope, better understanding, and a deeper commitment to safeguarding health and human rights for all can be achieved.

Anniversary milestone

One other milestone that deserves mention is that the event also coincides with the 20th anniversary of South Africa’s ARV Comprehensive Care Management and Treatment Plan roll-out, marking a pivotal milestone in the country’s HIV/Aids response.

With tickets priced at R200 (gallery) and R255 (floor seating), demand is already soaring. Tickets are available through Computicket and Shoprite/Checkers outlets, and those who wish to attend the event have been urged to get their tickets early so that they can secure their spots and avoid disappointment.

Further encouragement is that the municipality has pulled out all the stops to ensure that the event is well-organised, with vendors ready to serve the crowd. Patrons are reminded that camp chairs, cooler bags, and outside food are not allowed, so they should plan accordingly.

Whether you’re a champion for community causes, a devoted fan of big Gospel groups, or simply someone who loves great music, this event promises to deliver on all fronts and must not be missed.

Kimberley is set to host an evening that will be remembered, with a powerhouse line-up, an important message, and a world-class venue buzzing with excitement.
