The Noupoort police arrested a 35 year old man after discovering a firearm at his house in Tyoksville on Monday.
SAPS Northern Cape provincial spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Sergio Kock said the police raided the premises at about 10.30am in response to information received.
“A 9mm vector and ammunition were found during the execution of the sting operation.
“The 35 year old suspect was arrested and charged for possession of a suspected stolen firearm. The serial numbers of firearm were filed off and will be sent for forensic testing,” he added.
Meanwhile another firearm was seized during Operation Vala Umgodi operations that were conducted on December 19 to prevent illicit mining activities.
SAPS Northern Cape provincial spokesperson Sergeant Molefi Shemane said a 28 year old suspect was arrested at Samaria informal settlement.
“He was searched and found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.”
He added that a motorcycle used by the suspect with an estimated value of R70 000 was also confiscated by the police.
“The team continued with crime prevention duties in Samaria and arrested three undocumented persons aged between 23 to 31 years old.”
Shemane indicated that fines to the value of R7 150 were issued for unroadworthy vehicles at a vehicle checkpoint held on the Boshof road.
Shemane added that members arrested two men aged 27 and 43 years old for being in possession of suspected drugs in New Park on December 22.
“Additional information led to the search of a premises in Roodepan. Upon arrival, three male suspects between the ages of 29 and 35 years were found in possession of suspected drugs, and were subsequently arrested.
“The team continued with stop and search actions and arrested three undocumented persons, age 29, 36, and 37 years old, in Samaria informal settlement and a 33 year old suspect for riotous behaviour.”
He indicated that several fines were issued for contravening traffic laws.
“Drugs as well as a substantial amount of money believed to be the proceeds of crime were also confiscated.”
He added that members of Operation Vala Umgodi were conducting vehicle patrols when they came across abandoned endangered plants in Kleinzee.
“The police remain alert and operationally prepared to intercept any unlawful activities and encourage communities to report illegal mining and related activities to crime stop number on 08600 10111 or use the MySAPS app,” Shemane said.
