A FARMERS market will take place at the Galeshewe circle on Friday, from 9am, offering young farmers the opportunity to showcase their products and obtain more information about the agricultural industry.

Thato Dipico, an extension officer from the Northern Cape Department of Agriculture, Environmental Affairs, Rural Development, and Land Reform, explained that the event aims to empower young farmers by providing networking opportunities, access to information and funding, and support for business growth.

“There are over 100 young farmers in the Province, including those who have been trained by the department, as well as those operating in emerging and informal markets. Due to limited access to land, I encourage them to maximise available space and plant in their backyards,” said Dipico.

“Anyone is welcome to come and exhibit their products, even if it is 100% cotton T-shirts, beauty products made out of natural ingredients or clothing manufactured out of wool. The market will remain open until the last person leaves.

“I intend to grow this event into the biggest agricultural exhibition in the Northern Cape and want to also roll it out to different provinces.”

Dipico added that the department also assists young farmers with tax compliance, marketing of their products, workshops and sponsorships.
