THE GALESHEWE police have opened an enquiry after a child allegedly discovered a white tablet in a biscuit packet that was purchased at a spaza shop in Bloemanda, Kimberley, this week.
Community members raised concerns that drugs were being sold to children in the area.
The Galeshewe community policing forum chairperson, Simon Dire, added that residents had to be prevented from shutting down the spaza shop on November 12.
Ward 6 councillor Nomganza Riet said that the child found the tablet inside the biscuit packet.
“The substance was sent for testing at a laboratory.”
Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Sergio Kock stated that the incident occurred on Tuesday at around 6.30pm.
“The 14-year-old child allegedly purchased the packaged chocolate biscuit from the spaza shop in Bloemanda and discovered the tablet inside. The matter was reported to the Galeshewe SAPS and the alleged evidence will be sent for forensic testing,” said Kock.
He added that no arrests had been effected at this stage.
“Anyone with information regarding this or a similar incident is requested to contact Detective Sergeant Pepe Mogoje on 073 033 9164. The investigation continues,” Kock concluded.
