FIVE suspects were arrested in Barkly West during the early hours of Monday morning after they were found in possession of implements that were suspected to have been used to break into properties.

Members of the Northern Cape Provincial Organised Crime Investigation team reacted to information from the E2 security service regarding a white Mazda bakkie that was suspected to have been involved in business and housebreaking incidents in Fauresmith in the Free State.

SAPS provincial spokesperson Sergeant Molefi Shemane said the occupants of the vehicle were stopped while travelling from Postmasburg/Danielskuil en route to Kimberley on July 23 at 12.1.0am.

“The team of detectives stopped and searched the vehicle close to the Barkly West police station. Five males were found inside the bakkie with housebreaking implements, including grinders, an electric extension, a bolt cutter, zinc cutter, crowbar, grinder blades and pliers,” said Shemane.

He added that the actions of the Northern Cape Provincial Organised Crime Investigation unit led to the arrest of five suspects, aged 36, 43, 47, 50 and 51 years old.

The provincial commissioner of the Northern Cape, Lieutenant-General Koliswa Otola, commended the collaboration between the private security company and the police in the fight against crime.

She stated that the police in the Northern Cape would not allow criminals from outside the Province to operate in “our territory”.
