THE BODY of an unidentified man was discovered near the railway tracks in Modderrivier by a group of boys who were gathering firewood on June 21.

The deceased was found hanging from a tree, where the body was already in an advanced stage of decomposition.

Community members stated that no one had been reported missing in the area.

“The deceased could have committed suicide,” they said.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Molefi Shemane confirmed that the Modderrivier police had opened an inquest docket after the decomposed body of a man was found hanging from a tree near the Modderrivier railway tracks on Wednesday.

“As of yet, the police do not have any information about his identity, but it is believed that he might be between the ages of 25 to 30 years old.”

Shemane added that a post-mortem would be conducted to establish the cause of death and to determine whether any foul play was involved.

“The investigation continues.”
