AN OFF-DUTY police officer recovered a suspected stolen Toyota Quest sedan in Wrenchville.
According to the police, the “alertness and vigilance” of Warrant Officer Ben Eiman, who is stationed at Lime Acres, led to the recovery of the vehicle on Sunday at 8.40am.
The vehicle was reportedly stolen on Saturday during a house robbery in Danielskuil.
Northern Cape police spokesperson Brigadier Mashay Gamieldien said Eiman was on his way to church with his family when he noticed an abandoned vehicle fitting the description of a vehicle that was reported as stolen.
“He dropped off his family at church and returned to the vehicle. He contacted ZF Mgcawu Highway Patrol to confirm and verify the particulars of the vehicle allegedly stolen,” said Gamieldien. “The Wrenchville police as well as other SAPS units were contacted and processed the scene.
“The police confiscated the vehicle, however, there was no arrest as the vehicle was found abandoned.”
The acting district commissioner of ZF Mgcawu, Brigadier Peet Coetzee, commended Eiman “for going the extra mile while off duty, which displayed commitment and dedication”.
