THE MINISTER of Agriculture, John Steenhuisen, together with the Premier of the Northern Cape, Dr Zamani Saul, will commemorate World Food Day in the town of Delportshoop on Wednesday.

This event will serve as a platform to highlight the importance of sustainable food systems, and the critical role agriculture plays in addressing hunger and ensuring food security, both locally and globally.

The Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Nokuzola Capa, and the Northern Cape MEC for Agriculture, Environmental Affairs, Rural Development and Land Reform, Mase Manopole, along with representatives from the Frances Baard District Municipality and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, will also form part of the celebrations.

In a joint statement, the Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development, alongside the Northern Cape provincial government, highlighted that the occasion would focus on promoting healthy eating habits, increasing awareness of malnutrition, and bringing global awareness to those suffering from hunger.

The event aims to inspire collaboration between government bodies, international organisations and local communities to strengthen efforts in combating food insecurity and achieving long-term agricultural sustainability.

The celebration of World Food Day underscores the need for collective action in building resilient food systems that benefit everyone, from local farmers to global consumers.
