TWO SUSPECTS were arrested on Tuesday after Olifantshoek SAPS B-Relief members caught them transporting an endangered plant species in a Toyota Quantum.

SAPS provincial spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Sergio Kock said the police were conducting patrols at around 5am on July 30 when they stopped and searched the taxi.

“The police found a substantial amount of endangered plants stashed inside the vehicle.

“Two male suspects, aged 37 and 45 years old, were charged with contravening the National Environmental Biodiversity Act 10/2004 and will appear in the Kathu Magistrate’s Court soon.”

He added that the case docket would be handed over to the John Taolo Gaetsewe District Directorate for Priority Crime Investigations (DPCI) for further investigation.
