A NEIGHBOUR was sentenced to two years imprisonment for gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF) after he assaulted a 43-year-old woman who lived next door to him by means of a shoe.
SAPS provincial spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Sergio Kock said the woman was asleep in Augrabies on the evening of April 19, 2019.
“The accused, Yogray Pieters, 29, entered her home, allegedly raped her and assaulted her with a shoe. He was arrested and bail was successfully opposed.”
Kock added that the accused was acquitted of the rape charge.
“He was sentenced in the Kakamas magistrates court to two years imprisonment, suspended for five years for assault GBH. He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.”
