THE Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) in the Northern Cape is expected to finish counting on Thursday (tomorrow) afternoon and is aiming for a 75% voter turn-out in the Province.
Spokesperson for the provincial IEC, Elkin Topkin, said the results would be announced nationally on Sunday by the IEC.
"There was a 67% voter turn-out in the 2019 national general elections.
"It is promising that 49 percent of voters between the ages of 18 and 30 have registered to vote and usually there is a high voter turn-out among youths."
He added that 21% of the eligible voter population had not registered to vote this year.
"We managed to complete around 60 percent of special votes. Some voters were not at home when home visits were conducted while problems were experienced with voter management devices where manual votes were recorded."
Topkin stated that voters who happened to be in a different voting district today and had not applied for a Section 24 A vote would not be able to vote.
He indicated that the SAPS had increased visibility at voting stations in the John Taolo Gaetsewe and Joe Morolong districts as well as Hotazel.
"A few stations were flagged as medium risk due to service delivery protests although no incidents were reported."
