FOUR suspects were arrested on charges of stock theft after carcasses, a sheep and other items valued at about R8,000 were found in their possession.
The police spokesperson for the ZF Mgcawu District, Sergeant Omphile Masegela, said a member of the Rural Safety unit secured the arrest.
“The station commander of Upington, Brigadier Peet Coetzee, commended the swift response by the member of Rural Safety in securing an arrest for stock theft on Friday night, November 10, 2023,” said Masegela.
“The stand-by member received information about a white Volkswagen Caddy bakkie allegedly transporting stolen livestock on the Rietfontein road. Information was operationalised and the vehicle was stopped and searched. The two suspects inside the vehicle were arrested for stock theft and possession of suspected stolen goods.
“The vehicle that was used in the alleged commission of the crime was impounded.”
Masegela added that two farmworkers were also arrested in connection with the incident.
“Further investigations led to the arrest of two farmworkers. The four suspects are expected to appear in court soon. The owner of the livestock was present to identify his property,” she concluded.
