ALTHOUGH various water provision points will be available to Kimberley residents during the city-wide water shutdown this weekend, Sol Plaatje Municipality has urged residents to ensure that they have an adequate supply of water to see them through the planned interruption.

Water taps in the city will be dry from Thursday night until Sunday.

Municipal spokesperson Thoko Riet said the water supply to the entire city will be switched off at 8pm on Thursday night and the water supply will resume on Sunday at 6pm.

Riet said the municipality will supply residents with water during the interruption.

"Roaming tankers and flatbed trucks equipped with JoJo tanks will be made available to residents at specific sites. There will be dedicated water tankers for funerals, old age homes, hospitals and school hostels.”

She added that water points will also be established in various areas of the city.

"Water points for residents will be in the Newton Reservoir area, Reservoir Road, the Civic Centre and the different police stations in Roodepan, Galeshewe and Phakamile Mabija Street," said Riet.

She called on residents to restrain from vandalising municipal property and to report any incidents of vandalism.

"Residents are requested to be on the lookout for vandalism and theft of JoJo tanks. If there is any suspicion of vandalism, they can report it to the nearest law enforcement agency. The contact details for the various co-ordinators will also be shared across all our communication platforms," Riet concluded.
